Before going into more detail about why each of the lines made the list. I will explain a bit of theory behind what lines are used and why to let you make a more informed decision.
Now, there used to be only two types of fly lines. But now, there are many different ones. So, when trying to find out, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and simply give up.
The main selection criteria I used for the rating was the average rating out of 5, stars for them on Amazon.
Amazon is one of the largest e-commerce websites in the entire world, according to Axiomq.com.
As a result, I found this to be a very reliable place to find how other people have found using the products on the list.
As you might have learned in high school, the larger the sample size the more accurate the average. Meaning, the more reviews there are the more accurate the average rating.
Other than that, each specific line is suited to some weather conditions and fishing spots more than others.
As a general rule, those with weight at the front are better for windy conditions, or where you need to be really accurate. For example when you are shooting for a specific point next to a bank.
These types of fly lines make it so that the wind doesn’t blow them off course so bad. There is also less delay from when you cast it and when it hits the water that makes it easier to cast. Even, if you happen to be a beginner.
For all the theory and a complete discussion, I would recommend reading this article here, by FishUSA.com. It explains how they are made and other interesting facts about fly lines.
